Turnaround day

A cruise call in Barcelona, hour by hour

On a turnaround day one sailing ends and the next begins at the same terminal. Most ships dock between 04:00 and 09:00 and sail again between 16:00 and 20:00, so the whole change of passengers fits into a few hours. This is the shape of a typical day; your own times are on your cruise documents.

  1. 05:00–08:00The ship docks. Four in ten cruise ships berth between 07:00 and 08:00.
  2. 07:00–10:00Disembarkation. Self-assist passengers first, then groups by luggage tag until about 10:00.
  3. 11:00–14:00Flights home. The departures that usually work after leaving the ship.
  4. 11:00–15:30Check-in for the next sailing. In the slot your cruise line gives you.
  5. 16:30All aboard. Usually 60 to 90 minutes before sailing.
  6. 18:00The ship sails. Two in three leave between 17:00 and 19:00.

Docking and sailing times: Port of Barcelona open data, 781 cruise calls in 2026 up to 26 October. Disembarkation and boarding: usual cruise line practice. The clock hand shows the time in Barcelona now.

The pattern

Why some mornings are busier

On a turnaround day thousands of passengers leave a ship in the morning and thousands more board in the afternoon, all through the same terminals at the end of the breakwater. When several ships do this on the same day, the drop-off and pick-up areas and the single access road become the bottleneck.

The live list on this page shows the ships the Port of Barcelona expects this week and their terminals. Several ships on one morning, especially at the far terminals, is the signal to plan with more margin. For the full week ahead, see the cruise ship schedule.
